On September 24, 2020 I had the great opportunity to visit and observe three of the four Monitoring Sites that were staked out in the first week of June of this year. I was joined by:
Darryl Taylor, Communications Monitor, MMTP Committee
Sarah Coughlin, Senior Environmental Specialist, Licensing & Environmental Assessment, Manitoba Hydro
Ariane Dilay, Engagement Officer, Licensing & Environmental Assessment, Manitoba Hydro
We began the day meeting at 09:00 a.m. at tower 124 which is located adjacent to the floodway in the southeast side of Winnipeg. Weather-wise the day was ideal to be outdoors to monitor the sites with clear skies and warm temperatures. Data was collected and recorded over a 30 minute period.

The next stop was a trip to towers 405 & 406 in southeast Manitoba near the town of Sundown. Again pictures were taken and data recorded to monitor the changes that have occurred to the sites since the completion of the project. Please observe the three post-construction monitoring forms for an in-depth look at our findings. The forms can be accessed here

To summarize, I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of regrowth of vegetation in such a short period of time along the Right of Way. Also, the signs of wildlife including bear, deer, and possible moose around towers 405/406 was especially encouraging. This was found in the form of tracks, scat, and trailcam pictures.

I definitely look forward to the next visit to the monitoring sites to relay our findings to you!
