Ceremony and MMTP

Adolf Bittern from Brokenhead First Nation was presented tobacco from Valard construction to perform a blessing ceremony and offering on AMP 352 site. Darryl Taylor, MMTP communications monitor, sang the appropriate ceremony songs. The construction workers and equipment have been experiencing break downs and problems on this specific site. Smudging and offering tobacco was done with all who attended.

I would like to thank Valard construction for acknowledging our Indigenous way of life and bringing the elder to the site. Experiencing these ceremonies on this project was prophesied by our elders from the past. They said new ceremonies would evolve with time and future development.

Manitoba Hydro and the MMTP monitoring committee have allowed the Indigenous monitors to perform duties out of respect for our culture.

- Harvesting cedar for the indigenous communities.

- Performing blessing ceremonies on site.

- Making offering of tobacco and hanging sacred tobacco ties for the whole project.

- Water ceremony on the red river crossing.

- Identifying sacred sites.

Water land plants and animals are all people’s responsibility to protect.

We all know the importance of hydro in today's society, its benefits all peoples in their daily lives. Today hydro is essential on all aspects.

Indigenous peoples to make offering to the spirits on the project is our way to give back to the land water plants and animals that are being affected.

Thank you.
